Master Class with AMTLIVE! Paris and Carmel Dean

On May 7, 2013 AMTLIVE! Paris hosted guest musical theatre master class clinician Carmel Dean at the Espace Saint Roch (Paris 1er). A special thanks to everyone who participated in the event – what a wonderful way to spend the day… bringing more musical theatre to Paris, France!

CARMEL DEAN is a Composer, Arranger, Musical Director and Pianist. She was most recently seen onstage as the Musical Director of American Idiot on Broadway, and performed with Green Day on the Grammy Awards in 2010. Prior to American Idiot, she was the Vocal Arranger and Associate Conductor of Broadway’s The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Off-Broadway credits include Everyday Rapture, Vanities and Elegies – A Song Cycle by William Finn. International credits include Chicago (Hong Kong) and the 2000 Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies (Sydney). Carmel has also served as Chita Rivera’s Musical Director for many national and international appearances.

As a composer, her work includes A Girl Called Vincent; music for the Disney TV show Johnny & the Sprites; and Songs of Innocence & Experience (co-composed with William Finn, Deborah Abramson, Vadim Feichtner & Gi-hieh Lee.)

Carmel is a native of Perth, Western Australia, and received a B.Mus. from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). In 2001 she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in the United States, and subsequently graduated from NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program with a Masters in Musical Theatre Writing.

Carmel currently resides in New York City, and is a proud redhead.

On April 27, 2013, participants in the AMTLIVE! musical theatre master classes, taught by Miranda Crispin and John Florencio, will present their final showcase at the Salon de Musique (Paris 18ème), featuring tunes from the best of classical Broadway and contemporary musical theater. AMT Live! Paris is also proud introduce the cast members of the Paris premiere production of Edges by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

Featuring: Amélie Foubert, Thorian Jackson, Lova Andriamonje, Charlotte Hervieux, and the cast of EdgesAdam Benghiat, Wassila Benaïssa, Clara Benioff, Lauren Berkman, Eddy DePretto, Xavier Ecary, Vincent Gilliéron, and Clara Pettmann.

AMTLIVE! Professional Musical Theatre Showcase

Following a five-week session of musical theatre master classes with Miranda Crispin and John Florencio, professional performers Caroline Archambault, Tolgay Pekin, Angelique Fridblatt, Ariane-Olympe Girard, Myriam Zekaria, and Mark Townsley took the stage on March 3, 2013 to present a final showcase. Following the performance, AMTLIVE! hosted a musical theatre open mic for Paris singers, including guests Laurent Ban and AMTLIVE! member Candice Parise, who performed a bilingual version of the Notre Dame de Paris song “Les oiseaux qu’on met on cage.”
